19 of Daniil Medvedev's 21 championships have been earned on hard courts
A resurgent Daniil Medvedev claimed his initial title for nearly 30 months with a win over Frenchman Moutet in the competition final.
The Russian, a ex- world number one, has endured a difficult season, managing just one win at the big events and suffering a difficult moment at the American major.
His unpredictability on the tennis tour - and difficulties with his serving in particular - led to him dropping out of the top ten and eventually parting ways with former coach Gilles Cervara.
Now working with his coach and his other coach, he has steadily advanced in the past month - peaking in a closely contested three-set win over challenger Moutet.
This marks Medvedev's first title since the 2023 Rome Masters and maiden on a hard court after March of that year.
Victory also signifies he has achieved twenty-one titles at twenty-one various events.
"This marks the first occasion I'm at a competition with my children simultaneously, so to win a trophy is especially meaningful," commented tennis professional Medvedev.
"This championship is in tribute of my younger daughter Victoria, because the first title I achieved when my first daughter Alisa was born was for her."
The tennis star, the past champion, had failed in his last six championship matches, comprising in Halle in the past months.
His defensive play style and frequent emotional displays on the playing surface had led some to question if his capacity to compete at the highest level was over.
But the 29-year-old has implemented adjustments in the past month, attempting to approach the net and compete aggressively, backed up by an improved service.
Medvedev fought back from a break down in the initial set against the challenging Moutet, winning four of the last five exchanges to go ahead.
The pair exchanged service breaks in the following set before the challenger, attempting for his first ATP Tour championship, took control to force a third set.
He defended four early opportunities in a close final set before the champion secured a break to 15 to close out the victory.
Appropriately, the winner secured victory with a point at the front of the court, with the Frenchman incapable to handle a volley after a lengthy match.
