The Iconic Puzzle Game Wouldn't Triumph at The Game Awards — A New Category May Address This Issue

As any prominent honors show approaches, one notices an outcry to include of new categories to acknowledge overlooked contributions and delight the hearts of followers who have specialized interests.

A fellow writer previously argued for a horror game category. It would be amazing. Equally deserving are strategy board titles, representing someone's personal cause. However, I must insist for pushing forward just as with other blinkered fanatics, I possess a compelling case supporting my request is the most urgent and significant. The demand is this: It's essential to create a category for puzzle games.

Categorizing Game Types

Classifying creative works is not a science; it remains highly personal, and inevitably start arguments resulting in unclear classifications. There’s a reason film award organizations don’t do it. However, it represents an essential concession for the industry of gaming, that demonstrate such variety it's challenging to consider them one unified medium.

For comprehensive acknowledgment of achievement in video games to receive acknowledgment, and for games of all stripes to have a chance for representation, genre categories are essential.

Existing Game Classification System

Leading game ceremonies presently include award types recognizing Action, Action/Adventure, RPG experiences, Combat games, Sim/Strategy, and Sports/Racing games. Between them, these award types effectively encompass many game types, allowing placement for numerous titles.

This doesn't apply to brain-teasing titles. No appropriate category exists for their placement. Think about these outstanding current releases, all very different: building puzzles in a particular game, the pulse-pounding block-matching from another release, and the sweetly sociological logic puzzles of a third title. Where could they possibly go within current classifications? Simply put, no category fits.

Acknowledgment Issues

Numerous examples exist of brilliant puzzle games launched regularly without proper recognition during gaming ceremonies, if they accidentally match award groups including Mobile Game, VR/AR Game, or the intensely contested Indie races.

  • A renowned logic title got overlooked in any category in 2014
  • Another imaginative release missed out in 2019
  • Popular arranging title was overlooked recently
  • Only a few puzzle games managed to sneak into small studio or handheld classifications

Significance of Puzzle Games

Commonly they're compact experiences, yet the craft behind logic titles carries substantial weight. Famous handheld logic titles count as most engaged experiences in the world and have been for over a decade.

The iconic tile-matching title competes with well-known building titles for the title of most purchased experience; it’s also in the running for top gaming experience. Brain-teasers form essential building blocks for gaming as medium, while interacting with diverse game types.

The Solution and Justification

Brain-teasers wouldn't encounter that issue. It would be easy to populate five nominees interesting, varied, worthy titles annually without trouble — perhaps, with difficulty, because you’d have to leave so many good games out.

To emphasize again, these include experiences without proper classification at major gaming awards. Brain-teaser creators function at the demanding boundary of video game design, creating some of most fundamental forms within interactive entertainment. Just like film action specialists, they warrant appreciation. Don't make them wait decades.
